* **Source Material**: Published 5E 2014 books (not UA) + Valda's Spire of Secrets. Other homebrew for PC creation by consultation only, and sparingly.
* **Races**: No githyanki.
- **Classes**: No restrictions.
- **Alignment and Personality**: Generally not anything that is going to cause you to be bad at being a team player.
- **Technology Level**: This is this setting’s high point technologically, so artificers, rudimentary firearms, warforged, etc. are viable options.
- **Starting Level**: Probably 1-3 depending on group consensus.
- **Ending Level**: Unknown, hopefully high!
- **Ability Scores**: Standard Array
- **Equipment**: Standard class equipment, with some DM additions
- **Backgrounds**: One fairly rigid stipulation for this one. You need to be currently serving as an elected official from a province (different province for each player), who is *likely* **not** a career politician due to the lack of ability to be re-elected to this office. You can have come by your appointment in a variety of ways - leadership, service, religious pursuits, combat heroism, charity, a raffle of volunteers, etc. You can work with me on that, and on some basic info about the barony you represent.
- **Party Formation**: You may know each other individually. You have served as a council together, at least some subset of you, for months or years. There will likely be both positive and negative ties amongst you. Once we have basics about characters figured out, we can work as a group to create these relationships, where appropriate, prior to starting. Most or all of you will not be from this city, but have only lived here on and off while on the Council.
- **Campaign Scope**: I intend this campaign to take place entirely within a single large city. We won’t be world travelers, getting a wide expanse of shallow experiences, but rather deep diving into one diverse and expansive cityscape. Becoming familiar with particular places and people will be important, as you may be able to return to favorites again and again. It will be a fairly constant dangerous environment, dealing with the constant looming threat of the crisis that will develop in our opening scenes, and thus may take on a more grim tone than some campaigns.
## Note for New PCs
Any new PCs added to the campaign will, by necessity, not have the same recent backstory of being a councilor elected by normal process and serving in the capital, as this would be impossibly based on recent events.
During the first moments of a session of the Royal Council which would have begun the process of electing a new monarch to replace the last of the Creed line, a githyanki raiding party of large scale has assaulted the capital of Celdun, Harreton, and instead of leaving within hours, has settled in, so far. They have inflicted massive damage on the defensive capabilities of the city and, as the party is discovering, have also taken steps to neutralize potential sources of strategic power in the city.
Potential in-roads for new characters are:
* Person seeking out the councilors and their allies to help resist against the Gith invasion
* Person nominated by a baron to be considered for the crown, and ordered to assist the council during the invasion
* Person elected specially to fill an empty council seat by a baron whose council
* Person who is organically in the party's path (recently, someone who was at a particular temple or mages' guild, for example) who joins them in working against the invaders
* ...or some other means by which you could join this group of individuals who are on the run!
