These are topics that will be covered either in Discord prior to the start of the campaign, or during a live Session Zero (or some in each). It’s a work in progress list! ## Introductions * Who are you, anything else you want us to know about you, the player? * What race/class are you thinking about playing? * Any quick tidbits about your character idea (details can be later)? ## DM Info Dump * **Milestone Leveling** - We will level based on events that occur in the campaign. This reduces a huge amount of math and points tracking and removes the tedium of deciding whether, for example, murdering random people on the street is as important as an actual story-relevant fight of the same CR. We just level as we go. Probably more quickly at the beginning and more sporadically as you get higher in level. * **Inspiration** - I would like to give this often, if I can remember, for particularly good roleplaying, or combat endeavors, or remind-the-dm-about-the-homework type saves from players. I’d also like to not cap it at one, if no one minds. * **Wiki** - it is there. * **Skill Checks** (and other rolls). Players don’t make rolls whenever they want; I will request rolls when the outcome of your action is in doubt. The goal here is to avoid situations where the player expects a particular result from their roll without being told it was a thing that could be rolled for, first, and second, to eliminate unnecessary rolls for things that outcomes that are unavoidable (unless you're blind, you see the dragon land ten feet in front of you without needing Perception; and on the other end of the spectrum, it's simply not possible that you can persuade roll high enough to make John Wick suddenly attack and kill his dog). * **Interpersonal Conflicts**: We don’t hash out interpersonal conflicts during a session. If you have an objection to a DM ruling or something another player does, please, feel free to point it out in a polite manner. I will make a ruling on the spot, or, if it feels important, spend a second figuring out the answer (or even ask someone else to do a rules check at times) and we will proceed. If you don’t like the outcome, please let me know - after the session. Let’s talk. I don’t want anyone to be upset about things that happen in game, especially personal conflicts with other players, or DM rulings that they don’t agree with - but let’s not hash it out at the expense of moving the game forward. Also, remember that audiences make everyone less capable of conflict resolution, including you and me. * **X Cards** ## Logistical Considerations * **Recording/Streaming/Etc**: Is anyone intending to do this, and if so, does everyone else consent. * **Video vs Voice Only** * **Roll 20 Token Frames**: I can make them or you can. I would request that tokens show the character's face, head/shoulders, etc and that it have some kind of token ring so that they're distinguishable at a glance from our NPCs and monsters. I'm happy to make them separately, happy to frame them all uniformly, or happy to leave it to each of you. * **Starting Level Consensus**: I'm thinking 1-3? Probably depends on if you want this to be a true 1-20 type campaign, or if we want to make it shorter level-wise, or start with a boost, etc. * **Software and Assets**: Finding character images (I can also use MidJourney if anyone needs help), verification that everyone has accounts for Roll20 and Discord and they’re working, everyone has joined both the campaign and the Discord server, sheet requirements, etc. * **Home Barony**: Each player needs to choose a home barony. We can decide that in whatever way you all want: * Stack rank them all and I assign with the attempt to make everyone at least ok with it. * Group discussion. * Random lots. * I can assign based on character concepts ## Play Style Conversations * **Survival Mechanics** * **PC Death** * **PC Wish Lists** * **Missions and Boons** * [[TLC House Rules]] ## Backstories * After barony selection, players can work with DM to create any background info they want on their barony at large, the selection process and how they got to be a councilor, how long ago, and their own personal backstory. * Players can determine their relationships with each other's characters at the time of the game start. There will be those four and a fifth NPC, who I will post a profile of. ## What Else?
